The first world's tallest buildings

The first world's tallest buildings
Since the discovery by archaeologists in 1962, 28 feet high stone tower discovered on the corner of the town of Jericho has been a puzzle for scientists. Currently, 11,000 years after the tower was built, archaeologists at the ancient site Tel Jericho reveals new facts about the building "skyscraper" in the world.

Advanced computer-based research by doctoral student Roy Liran and Dr. Ran Barkai of the Department of Archaeology Jacob M. Alkow Tel Aviv University and Ancient Near Eastern Cultures at the Lester and Sally Faculty Humanitas uncover who built the 28-foot tower - and why was it built?

The researchers noted that this is the first human being to uphold high buildings like that, before the transition to agriculture and food production in the area. Liran and Dr.. Barker is now so sure that the tower, which takes ten years to build it is an indication of power struggles at the beginning of the Neolithic period, and a person or a particular society has exploited the primeval fears of Jericho residents to persuade them to immediately build the tower. Regarding the disclosure of new research on ancient tower also published in the journal Antiquity.

"In our recently published article states a new and exciting discovery," Liran and Dr.barkai said in a statement. "There is something that is connected to the position of the tower on the corner of the village of Jericho, and the shadow that covers the site when the sun sets on the longest day of the year."

Stairs (and tower) to Heaven
"Reconstruction of the sunset revealed to us that the shadow of the hill as the sun sets on the longest day of the year falls exactly on the Jericho tower, covered towers and covered the whole village.

"For this reason, we suspect that the tower is used as an earthly element connecting the site with the hills around them and with the heavenly element where the sun sets."

"This is a time when hierarchy and kepepimpinan began construction," said Dr. Barkai as quoted by the Jerusalem Post. "We believe this tower is one of the mechanisms to motivate people in a communal lifestyle."

Dismantling old theories

Some researchers have claimed that the tower and wall system consists of forts and defenses against flooding. But others claim that the towers and walls as geographical marker, defining the initial population of the region of Jericho, and a symbol of the wealth and power of the ancient village.

In an article in 2008, researchers from the University of Tel Aviv, stated that the tower and wall of Jericho should be seen as cosmological markers, connecting the ancient village of Jericho with the nearby Mount Qarantal and sunset on the day to extend the year. That's their new hypothesis.

The idea is based on the fact that the axis level stairs in the tower was built at right angles to the setting sun on the longest day of the year behind the highest peak overlooking Jericho, Mount Qarantal. They believe that it is the first skyscraper of mankind, however small, and also the first public building in the world.
